This market resolves YES only if the United States officially claims or establishes territorial or sovereign ownership over the Strait of Hormuz by 23:59 UTC on December 31, 2026; otherwise it resolves NO. Social media posts (including Truth Social), informal rhetoric, interviews, rally speeches, press gaggles, military patrols, freedom of navigation operations, temporary blockades, security control, or statements about "controlling" or "protecting" the waterway do not constitute ownership and will not be used for resolution. "Officially claims or establishes territorial ownership" requires at least one of the following: an executive order, law, or treaty published in the Federal Register or enacted by Congress that explicitly states the U.S. claims, assumes, or establishes sovereignty or sovereign ownership over the Strait of Hormuz (or uses equivalent wording such as "the Strait of Hormuz is hereby declared U.S. territory"); or an official White House or State Department press release published on whitehouse.gov or state.gov explicitly stating the U.S. claims or establishes sovereign ownership of the Strait of Hormuz; or an official U.S. diplomatic note to the UN or the UNCLOS depositary asserting U.S. sovereignty or sovereign ownership over the Strait of Hormuz. Statements describing naval blockades, freedom of navigation operations, security operations, or describing the strait as "effectively" or "essentially" U.S. territory do not qualify as an official claim of ownership. Primary sources for resolution are official publications on whitehouse.gov, state.gov, and the Federal Register; if these are unavailable, major wire services such as Reuters, AP, or AFP quoting the exact text of an official document or press release may be used instead. If no such explicit official claim or establishment of sovereign ownership is made by the deadline, the market resolves to NO.
